Coimbatore : "Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), 1875 farmers have received an escrow amount for the Kharif and Rabi season. The beneficiaries are verified by the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and a total amount of Rs 89.31 lakhs has been credited directly to the bank account of 1200 farmers. Under PMFBY, around 1598 farmers with 2040 acres of land have been enrolled for the Kharif season by 2019", stated the District Collector at the Farmers Grievance meeting held today at the District Collectorate.

The meeting was chaired by District Collector K.Rajamani during which he enquired about the demands of the farmers and received their petitions. He then directed the concerned officials to take necessary action on the petitions.
The Collector informed that the government has set a target for spraying bio-pesticides and pesticides in 319 hectares of land at a cost of Rs 15.05 lakh to control maize infestation in 2019-20 in the district of Coimbatore. Accordingly, steps are being taken to spray 2.5 litres of Azadirachtin 1500 PPM, a bio-pesticide for 20 days.
Villages and farmers selected from 12 regions will be part of the 19 committees set up for joint venture farming for the year 2019-20. Financial assistance worth Rs 5 lakhs will be given for the purchase of agro machinery to encourage these groups to practice joint venture farming, the Collector said.
Under sustainable rainfed agriculture, Rs 500/- per acre for summer ploughing, Rs 5 Lakhs for rainwater harvesting systems and construction of sewage ponds, and 50% subsidy on seeds, bio-fertilizers micronutrient fertilizers are being provided. And, Rs 75 lakhs has been allocated for setting up of rainwater harvesting systems, the Collector apprised.
The District Collector informed the farmers that mineral supplements needed for animal husbandry to treat reproductive disorders of animals and treatment of diabetes are provided. And, 50% subsidy is being provided for seeds and other inputs needs for rainfed agriculture. In addition to this palm saplings, tree saplings and fruit tree saplings will be cultivated for free by the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture.
The Collector concluded the meeting by assuring that all necessary measures will be taken to improve the livelihood of the farmers. District Collector K.Rajamani urged the farmers to make use of the welfare schemes announced by the State and Central governments.
Subsequently, on behalf of the Agriculture Department, a book on Maize cultivation technologies was released by the District Collector at the meet.
