"He said it's a rare herbal medicine from Kolli hills, but reports says it as acid", parents file complaint on alternative medical practitioner

Tirupur : In a shocking incident, the parents of a 13-year-old girl have filed a complaint against a alternative medical practitioner from Pollachi for administering wrong treatment for their daughter's skin ailement which has further worsened and has become incurable.

Tirupur : In a shocking incident, the parents of a 13-year-old girl have filed a complaint against a alternative medical practitioner from Pollachi for administering wrong treatment for their daughter's skin ailement which has further worsened and has become incurable. 

The enraged parents have filed a complaint against the alternative medical practitioner, Marugu Mahendran (48) from Pollachi. 

Upon investigation, the herbal concotion he claimed to be a rare set of herbs extracted from Kolli hills is nothing but a combination of caustic soda, red oxide and holy ash. 

On June 15, 2019, Dhanapal (42) and Rajeswari (37) from Chamundipuram, Tirupur had approached Marugu Mahendran (48) from Pollachi for treating a skin ailment for their 13-year-old daughter. Marugu Mahendran, known as a Siddha doctor in the area has been treating patients for skin ailments.

As all their attempts to cure their daughter's skin ailement went in vain, the couple believed in Marugu Mahendran who promised of 100% cure and added that he would administer some rare herbal medicine from Kolli Hills.

After obtaining Rs. 5000 from the parents, Marugu Mahendran had applied the medicine to the girl's shoulder area and promised them that it would heal. 

However, over the next few days, the little girl experienced several discomfort and the ultimately the skin became burnt and got infected further. 

Shocked by the medicine's reaction, the parents rushed her to a Allopathy doctor who examined and informed that an acid has been applied on the skin which has burnt the skin and aggravated the problem. The doctors have opined that the condition cannot be cured but only controlled. Presently, the girl who is suffering from pain is unable to attend her school, say the parents. 



Following this, the parents registered a complaint against Maruku Mahendran at Velampalayam police station in Tirupur. The police booked a case on him for medical negligence under Section 325, 15(3) of Medical Council Act of 1956. 

Upon investigation, it was revealed that he had mixed caustic soda, red oxide and holy ash and applied the same on the girl's skin. He claimed that he had administered this to several people and there were no issues reported. Marugu Mahendran further alleged that the parents have registered a complaint to tarnish his image.
