Coimbatore: The State of Tamilnadu underwent the worst power crisis between 2008 and 2012 where most parts of the state had power cuts for 8-12 hours in a day. Industrialists in Coimbatore have been reminded of the past this week when TANGEDCO asked industries which used more than 11KVA per day to connect to generators for 6 hours between 5:30 am to 11:30 am.

Industrialists in Coimbatore have been reminded of the past this week when TANGEDCO asked industries which used more than 11KVA per day to connect to generators for 6 hours between 5:30 am to 11:30 am.
When asked about this with the officials, they claimed that “this restriction was put in place for only one day on May 27th when the power from wind mills went down drastically and there is no power crisis.”
Industrialists though, are wary of this scenario and they claim they haven’t received any date on the notice and they continue to draw power from the generators for 6 hours and are hesitant to reconnect to the grid. Added to this fear is the fact that in the last week, there have been increased frequency of power cuts in the city. Some areas like Ganapathy have had close to 5 hours power cuts and people don’t really know the reason for the power cuts as officials are not forthcoming with reasons or assurances.
Officials continue to assure that there is no power crisis and these dips in power generation in summer are usual and when such need arises, High Tension power line users are usually requested to connect to alternate sources.
