N Karthik, MLA of the Singanallur Constituency presided over the meeting. At the end of the session, party members arrived at certain decisions to tackle existing public issues:
To stage a protest on June 7 at 10 am, urging immediate start of Railway Flyover work at S.I.H.S. Colony, Singanallur. To conduct Local Body Election since public issues have piled up. Improve drinking water plans so that people do not face scarcity of water. The Corporation will be urged to work on a war footing to meet the basic needs of the people.
N Karthik stated that in 2011 when late Kalaignar was the CM of Tamil Nadu, he had issued an order to start the construction of the railway flyover in S.I.H.S. Colony with a fund of 23 crores. "But in the same year, May 2011, when AIADMK came to power, they failed to have a meeting with the landowners whose land was supposed to be used for construction. The AIADMK Government used those properties but did not give them compensation, which irked the landowners.
The annoyed landowners then filed a court case, and the court ordered an an interim ban. Thus far, the district administration has not taken any steps to have a meeting with the landowners. Due to the negligence of the TN Government and the district administration, people have also had to face transportation issues. The residents of S.I.H.S. Colony, Singanallur, Neelikonampalayam and Nethaji Nagar are affected owing to this. Even patients cannot go in an ambulance during an emergency. The TN Government is not taking any step to restart the project just because the DMK government initiated it," he alleged.
N Karthik thanked the residents of Coimbatore for contributing to the victory of P R Natrajan, the CPI (M) candidate of the Secular Democratic Front. Mayura Jayakumar, State Executive President of the Congress party, V S Sundaram, District Secretary of CPI, Ramamurthy, District Secretary of CPI (M) and Dhanpal, State Secretary of Kongunadu Peoples National party participated in the meeting.
