Coimbatore: Residents of Rathnapuri attempted to attack lady employees of NSK Pawn Brokers demanding their jewels back. Out of fear, the employees locked themselves inside the company.

Muthukumar, a resident of Pongiyammal Street, Rathnapuri has been running a jewellery mortgage company named NSK Pawn Brokers for the past decade. Many from Rathnapuri had mortgaged their jewels to them. In the past two months, customers who had returned the loaned amount had not yet recovered their jewellery. This created a furore among customers and 25 of them laid siege of NSK Pawn Brokers at about 6 pm last evening.

Muthukumar, on the pretext of bringing back the jewellery of the customers fled the spot and did not return. This further created a commotion at the place, with customers beginning to attack the employees there. The employees reportedly locked themselves inside the shop.

The Rathnapuri Police tried to calm the irate customers but the residents staged a road roko in front of the shop which led to traffic issues. Sakthivel, the Inspector of Police, Rathnapuri arrived at the spot and convinced the residents to a register a complaint the next morning against the owner, after which the employees in the shop were rescued and sent home.
