53 arrested by city police for selling banned lottery tickets

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police had banned sale of different state's lottery tickets in the city.

In spite of that, many have continued to sell the banned lottery tickets, due to which city police arrested 53 people in this case based on the order from the Superintendent of Police. 



Selling of banned lottery tickets is on across many parts of Coimbatore even after the City Police has assigned an exclusive squad to clamp the banned activity. The City Police received a complaint that lottery tickets from Kerala which are banned in Tamil Nadu are being illegally sold in the outskirts of Coimbatore.

To combat the sale of these banned lottery tickets, Sujith Kumar, the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore ordered a thorough search across the city. Based on his orders, a team of police conducted a three-day search operation from the 28th of this month to the 30th. The exclusive squad arrested 10 people on 28th, 4 on 29th and 5 on 30th. A total of 53 people - 19 from Periyanaickenpalayam, 6 from Perur, 6 from Karumathampatti, 7 from Pollachi and 15 from Valparai were arrested in the raid against the illegal sale of banned lottery tickets.
