Coimbatore: Forest personnel of the Coimbatore Forest Division seized 10 kg of dead coral reefs from a house at Maniyakarampalayam in Coimbatore on Thursday.
One men, G. Saravanan was arrested for possessing coral reefs for illegal wildlife trade. He was produced before judicial magistrate and was remanded in custody. The endangered coral reefs are protected under Schedule one of the Wildlife Protection Act.
According to sources, based on a tip off, a team of forest personnel along with members of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau conducted the search on Thursday and immediately seized the articles.
