The garbage collected across Coimbatore city is dumped at the sprawling 630 acre dump yard in Vellalore. Along with permanent cleaning staff, 36 temporary staff currently work at the dump yard in Vellalore.
Over the years, the workers have been alleging on lack of property safety gears and additional benefits like ESI, PF and insurance.
"All our repeated petitions and pleas fell on deaf ears. When requested to increase the daily wages, the Panchayat administration has even ordered us not to work for the Panchayat", the employees alleged.
On Thursday, the National Scheduled Caste Commission, thus filed a petition to the District Collector K. Rajamani on their plight and a plea to fulfil their demands.
