Coimbatore: Through an official circular, the City Corporation Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday has passed a directive to all School administrations to upkeep cleanliness inside the school premises, ahead of the school re-opening.

In the circular, the DC Corporation has stressed that all school management should ensure that schools, classrooms, play areas and toilets are cleaned and sanitized thoroughly before the re-opening on June 3.
He advised them to discard all broken benches, chairs, boards and other plastic items dumped in the terrace and other places inside the school premises. With monsoons ahead, water stagnation at these sites could attract disease spreading germs like dengue, he pointed.
The circular also advised the schools to clean the drinking water and overhead tanks using bleaching powder. Vessels and pots in which drinking water is stored should be washed and kept in a clean environment.
Importantly, toilets should be cleaned and sanitized thoroughly. Any blocked urinals or broken buckets should be replaced. Adequate disposal bins should be made available in toilets. The schools should follow the instructions of the health officer and co-operate with them to implement a clean learning environment for the students, the DC said in the circular.
Those government schools providing mid-day meals should check the expiry of stock like rice, dhal, oil etc. If any products are expired, they should be discarded and only fresh stock should be used to cook meals. Cooking utensils, plates should be thoroughly washed and dried, the circular noted.
All school heads are asked to submit a comprehensive report on the preventive measures taken at their schools to prevent dengue and also a report assuring to have followed the above-mentioned directives. The report has to be mailed to [email protected], the circular added.
