Coimbatore : Vibrant NSS volunteers studying second year under graduation, consisting of 122 boys and 250 girls of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore have adopted four hamlets viz., Vellamadai, Kalipalayam, Thottipalayam and Samanaickenpalayam in Annur Taluk, Coimbatore district for conducting the NSS Special Camp and also for the regular NSS activities. NSS Special Camp 2019 is scheduled for seven days from May 27 to June 6.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr. A S Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore on May 27 at the Government Primary School, Thottipalayam village. Around 45 village people and 372 NSS volunteers attended the inaugural function. Ms.R Janani, a NSS volunteer welcomed the gathering. Dr. M R Backiyavathy, NSS Programme Coordinator introduced the NSS activities to be carried out during the NSS Special Camp by the NSS volunteers. She also emphasised the impact of NSS activities for the upliftment of farmers and village people, after a period of three years.
The village representatives Sundaramoorthy, R Balasundaram, Mohan Karthic, Karupusamy and Vijayakumar appreciated the NSS activities and services done by the TNAU NSS volunteers during regular and special camping programs in the past one year. Dr. A S Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore in his inaugural address insisted that the NSS volunteers garner knowledge from the farmers by interacting with them. He also distributed vegetable seeds to farmers and villagers. An awareness rally on 'Open Defecation' was organised on May 27 in Thottipalayam village where students distributed pamphlets to the local people.
