Migrant workers have become unavoidable after local labour force have become scarce. Over 1.5 lakh migrant workers are reported to have been employed in various sectors in Tirupur.
In 2018, the state government even proposed to set up a resource centre to provide support and guidance to labourers, who migrate to Tirupur from other states.
In this scenario, complaints relating to migrants workers from Bangladesh faking ID cards and getting placed in garment companies have been reported in the past.
In one such incident, the residents of Athimara Thottam of Sirupooluvapatti village in Tirupur filed a complaint at the Velampalayam police station against 18 Bangladesh nationals who allegedly have faked their IDs and secured jobs at a knit wear company in the area.
Based on their complaint, the police are questioning the Bangladeshi youth regarding their genuinity of their passport visas and IDs.
If passport and visa counterfeiting is proved, all the 18 Bangladeshi Nationals could court arrest, say sources.
Also, such counterfeiting activities helps absconding criminals from other states and nations to find hideouts in Tirupur by impersonating themselves as migrant workers.
