Coimbatore : In a brazen murder, a construction worker was hacked to death by a gang of three in a ongoing construction site located on the the busy Annaji Rao road in Mettupalayam.(MTP) on Monday night.

Velliangiri (39) hails from Sokkanur Subam gardens in Avinashi, Tirupur district. He has been working as a construction worker in MTP. On Monday night, Velliangiri was resting at the third floor of a construction site on Annaji Rao Road. A gang of three reportedly attacked him with brutal weapons and escaped from the spot.
Hearing him scream, the neighbours rescued him and sent him to MTP government hospital (GH) for treatment. After administering first aid, he was later shifted to Coimbatore government hospital for treatment. Not responding to the treatment, he passed away at the GH.
The MTP police have registered a case and are on the look out for the gang. Superintendent of Police, Sujit Kumar visited the spot and ordered the police to nab the murderers.
Reports say that the MTP police have got a statement from the deceased before he was shifted from MTP GH to Coimbatore GH where he died. It is also reported that Velliangiri had been was in an inebriated state at the time of his murder.
The murder at a busy location in MTP has shocked the residents.
