While welcoming the gathering, V Lakshminarayanaswamy, President of ICCIC demanded a regular training on Quality and Reliability for sustaining business to be conducted by ISI, Coimbatore which will be similar to the ones offered in cities by ISI Bangalore and Hyderabad. The workshop was attended by the senior executives of leading corporates and MSMEs, besides office bearers of the Chamber.
Six Sigma
Various studies in different sectors spanning across Automobile, Healthcare, and Discrete Manufacturing Software were presented by the corporate professionals after the Six Sigma Analytics training at ISI, Coimbatore.
Quality and Reliability for Exports
Speaking at the Workshop on quality and reliability jointly organized by the Indian Statistical Institute, Coimbatore and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, with the initiative of one of the MSMEs, H Ramasubramanian, Vice President, R&D Brakes India stressed the need for MSMEs to focus on quality and reliability. He further added that the customers could define their design requirements better than the designers.
Roney Simon, MD Simon and Cailand, Italy highlighted the need for design and development in India for enhancing exports of Engineering and Apparels as a value-added product to Europe, for which data-based decisions are vital. Padmashree Dr G Bakthavatsalam, Chairman, KG Group spoke about Indian innovations and their scale. He appreciated ISI's contribution to Healthcare Analytics.
Brig. A V Subramanian, President, Advanced Technology Centre (LMW) spoke about the importance of applying statistics to achieve quality and reliability in the Aerospace industry. Dr Prasun Das, Associate Dean of ISI, Kolkata highlighted the requirements of Machine Learning through Artificial Intelligence Modeling for business process decision-making as a future challenge.
Cost of Poor Quality
Prof A Rajagopal highlighted the various studies of:
• Rework reduction from suppliers from 21.5 % to 8.93 % in engineering components
• Customer rejections from 3.51% to 0% achieving zero defects in rubber wedge components
Brake pad wear prediction in automobiles and alert of the driver by physical measurements were shown.
Predicting functional scores of poly traumatic accident victims, Development of AI model and also reducing the delays in service Level Agreements in software products were delivered during workshops. Rajaramanathan, GM of SRK Polymers proposed the vote of thanks and disseminated the need for QR methods for MSMEs.
Six Sigma in MSME
One of the automotive / Aerospace component manufacturers was chosen to demonstrate database-based quality reliability analytics in the supply chain, customer feedback, internal rejections, efficiency and effectiveness of machine utilization which were shown to the participants by the company. The entire session was an eye opener for many entrepreneurs and professionals.
