Coimbatore : Condemning the panchayat administration for irregular supply of drinking water, the residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar that belongs to Somayampalayam Panchayat here demonstrated a road roko on Monday morning.
Coimbatore : Condemning the panchayat administration for irregular supply of drinking water, the residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar that belongs to Somayampalayam Panchayat here demonstrated a road roko on Monday morning.
All the 500 residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar had been grudging over water crisis issue over the past six months. The residents allege that they had been forced to rely on private water tankers to meet their daily water requirements.
"It has become a routine for the officials to set right the supply after we take the issue to the streets. Again, after a few weeks the issue repeats", alleged a resident.
Showing their disapproval against the callousness showed by the Panchayat authorities, the residents mostly women took to the streets this morning. They blocked the the Kanuvai - Anakatti road and raised slogans against the officials.
The traffic was halted for a brief time due to the road roko. The irked residents dispersed after police rushed to the spot and pacified them.
