Coimbatore: As many as thirty bags of plastic wastes and glass bottles were collected from the forested landscape of Mankarai by members of the Tamil Nadu Home Guards here on Sunday.
The clean up drive that was held as a part of an environmental awareness campaign along the Anaikatti Main Road, was headed by District Superintendent of Police, Sujit Kumar.
Talking at the event, Sujit Kumar said that besides helping police, Home Guards should take up such responsible works including environment conservation. “It is our duty to pass on a peaceful and clean environment to our future generation and we should contribute our best for the same,” he opined.
The SP added that discarding plastic wastes and bottles from forested areas were important to provide a safe environment for wild animals. “With Global warming increasing day by day, we should try to reduce its impact by planting more saplings,” he advised.
He also appreciated the Home Guards for their support during the General Elections and By-Poll in Sulur.
Around 60 members of the Home Guards from the Thudiyalur Unit participated in the clean up drive. They also planted 50 saplings in the area. The saplings would be taken care of by the Thudiyalur Unit Home Guards personnel.
Balaji Raju, Area Commander of Coimbatore District Home Guards, Deputy Commander Vidyashree Dharmaraj, Thudiyalur Inspector Balamurali Sundaram, Sub Inspector Franklin, Home Guards Advisor Madasamy and Company Commander of Thudiyalur M.
