Tirupur: Over 50 members of Students Federation of India (SFI) who were pedalling all the way from Coimbatore to Trichy to sensitize on the importance of enhancing government schools with better infrastructure were stopped for a brief time at Tirupur on Sunday.

The five-day bicycle rally was flagged off by Mylswamy Annadurai, former ISRO scientist and vice-president of Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, from the City on Saturday.
The police officials on Sunday stopped the crew citing lack of permission for the rally to pass through Tirupur. Later, after talks between the police and SFI members and communist party members, the crew were let go.
Tense situation prevailed for a brief time as the rally was stopped by the Police.
The SFI cadres from four zones in Tamil Nadu -- Coimbatore, Chennai, Cuddalore and Kaniyakumari commenced this rally against closing down of Government schools, urging enrolment of new students, filling staff vacancies and motivating government school students to excel in sports. The rally will end on May 31 at Trichy at a conference.
