Coimbatore: AIADMK emerged victorious in the 2019 elections for the Sulur Assembly constituency.
The AIADMK candidate Kandasamy who obtained 1,00,782 votes has been selected as the member of the legislature, in the Sulur Assembly constituency election. He defeated veteran DMK candidate, Pongalur Palanisamy who garnered 90,669 votes with a difference of about 10,113 votes. The Sulur by-election was necessitated after the death of incumbent AIADMK MLA R Kanagaraj. Kandasamy is the brother of the late MLA R Kanagaraj who won the assembly elections in 2016 with a vote share of 47.38 percent.
AMMK candidate Sukumar secured 16,530 votes, MNM candidate Mayilsamy got 6,644 votes and NTK candidate Vijayaraghavan garnered 4,335 votes.
The by-election to the Sulur assembly constituency recorded a voter turnout of 79.41 percent which was 4 percent more than the turnout during the 2016 State assembly election.
