Coimbatore : As many as 1172 vehicles belonging to 221 schools in Coimbatore are to go through strict scrutiny at the PRS Grounds in Coimbatore starting from today until the first week of June before the reopening of school.
Coimbatore : As many as 1172 vehicles belonging to 221 schools in Coimbatore are to go through strict scrutiny at the PRS Grounds in Coimbatore starting from today until the first week of June before the reopening of school.
The scrutiny camp is being organised by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Department to ensure the safety of school children and the abiding of norms by school authority according to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Act, 2012.
Inspecting the camp today District Collector Ku. Rajamani said that strict actions would be taken against the school management if their buses are found to not adhere to the norms.
“Certificates will be given after checking the speed controls, the quality of breaks and engine, height of the footboard, fire aid box and emergency exits. The rules would also fit to the private vehicles that go to school trips on contract,” he said.
Earlier, he spoke with the drivers wherein he informed them that four children use school buses in Coimbatore asking them to ensure the safety of those children. He also distributed awareness handouts and stuck clearance stickers on the buses that cleared the test.
The four Road Transport Officers of Coimbatore, District Education Officer and other transport officials participated in the event.
A similar camp was also held in Mettupalayam where in buses from more than 100 schools participated.
