In one such incident on Monday afternoon, a thief who had entered a house to commit theft was caught red-handed by the neighbours and was thrashed and handed over to the police.
The incident occurred at the residence of Ravichandran, Chekkan Thottam in Rathinapuri.
The accused and arrested Janir Hussain entered the house of Ravichandran and stole a battery.
While he was tying the battery to his vehicle and was about to escape, one of the neighbour fell dubious and stopped him.
The other neighbours also joined and nabbed the thief and thrashed him black and blue before he was handed over to the police.
Upon police investigation, it was found out that he was Janir Hussain, son of Abdul Sukhani, resident of Ukkadam Housing Unit.
He has been engaged in buying and selling of scrap iron items. He also sell it and has already stolen a battery from his area many times before. Police have set out to find if he has any other case registered in his name.
