Coimbatore: A 19-year-old college student, who went to take bath along with his friends in Bhavani river near Nellithurai in Mettupalayam, drowned on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh, Son of Balachandran from Thottipalayam near Karamadai. He was pursuing B.Com at a private college in Coimbatore.
Dinesh had invited four of his friends to spend the weekend at Bhavani river. Five of them including Dinesh bathed in Bhavani river at Gundukalthurai near Nellithurai on Sunday. It is reported that as they were bathing, Dinesh went further deep into the river and drowned.
His friends sought help the local residents, and alerted the Mettupalayam fire and rescue department.
A police team along with fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the body of the college student and sent it to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for postmortem.
The unexpected death of a college student in front of his colleagues has brought immense grief among the students.
