Coimbatore: The by-polls in Sulur assembly constituency began this morning at all 324 booths including 32 sensitive booths. The voting commenced at 7 am and will end by 6 pm.
A total of 2,95,158 voters, out of which 1,45,397 are male, 1,49,743 are female and 18 are transgender voters are expected to cast their votes at the by-pollls in which Kandasamy from AIADMK and Pongalur Palanisamy from DMK are regarded to be the major contestants.
G.Mayilsami from Makkal Needhi Maiam, Sugumar from Amma Munnetra Kalagam and Vijayaraghavan from Naam Tamilar' Katchi are the other prominent candidates out of the 22 candidates taking part in the Sulur by-polls.
3423 police personnel and 212 personnel from para military are deployed at the pooling booths for smooth conduct of elections. Election Officer, Balakrishnan will oversee the arrangements at all the booths in the constituency.
Along with Sulur, four other constituencies including Aravakuruchi, Ottapidaram and Thiruparunkundram will go to by-polls today.
The Phase 4 of the Lok Sabha Election 2019 is also underway. Nine states are going to the polls today with 71 seats up for the grabs.
