He has been manufacturing jewels and selling it through his employees to nearby retail jewellers in the district. In this scenario, he has registered a complaint in the big bazaar street police station on Thursday that 400 gms of gold jewelery had gone missing and he suspects foul play by his employee.
Based on the above complaint, a team headed by Inspector Vellankani Udhaya Rekha filed a complaint and commenced investigation. On investigation, it was found that Shanmugavel along with his aide Arumugam has converted the ornaments to gold biscuits and then sold them.
Upon inquiry, the police found that one of the employee Shanmugavel from Velandipalayam along with his aide Arumugam had looted the 400 gms of gold ornaments, melted it and sold them for cash.
On May 9, Shankareshwaran had handed over 5 kg of gold ornaments to Shanmugavel to sell them to retailers in Sathyamangalam. After he returned back, Shanmugavel had handed the remaining ornaments and cash to the owner. The owner found that around 400 gms of gold ornanents worth Rs. 13 lakhs of gold ornaments had gone missing. When he enquired the employee, he could not give proper reasons.
The Police have seized the missing gold ornaments from Shanmugavel and arrested him and his aide who helped him to loot the jewels. The duo were remanded and sent to Coimbatore central jail.
