Collector holds review meeting on arrangements for Vote counting day

Coimbatore : With results of Lok Sabha elections less than a week away, arrangements are on in full swing in the City to ensure fair counting.

Coimbatore : With results of Lok Sabha elections less than a week away, arrangements are on in full swing in the City to ensure fair counting. 

A review meeting was convened by the District Collector, K.Rajamani on Friday to reitrate the rules and regulations to be adhered during the vote counting day. 

Electoral Candidates along with Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan, District SP Sujith Kumar, Deputy Corporation Commissioner, Prasanna Ramasamy, Deputy Election Officers and booth agents took part in the meeting.

"Vote counting for six parliament constituencies will be held on May 23 at the Government College of Technology (GCT) on Thadagam road. 20 desks and 21 counting agents for Kavundampalayam constituency and 14 desks and 15 counting agents for the rest of the 5 constituencies will be alloted. And, 4 desks will be placed at the Election officer room for counting postal votes and candidates can appoint 4 counting agents for this", the Collector said. 

The Collector also informed that the candidates or election agents can appoint counting agents. The agents should fill and submit FORM 18 to the Assistant election officer along with photos attached and get their Identity card approved.

"All counting agents should produce their ID cards and be present at the counting centre by 6 am of May 23. Permission to enter the counting venue will be denied to those who fail to bring their ID card. The counting agents should be seated near the desk allotted to them. They will not be allowed to walk to other places or use cellphones. All basic amenities like food, refreshments and restroom facilities have been arranged near the counting room", added the Collector. 

The seating for counting agents will be allotted based on the registered national party candidates, candidates of state parties, candidates of other state parties, candidates of registered but unapproved parties and independent candidates.

"Counting supervisors, assistants and a micro observed will be appointed to oversee the counting process. The micro observer will be an employee of central government or an employee of the public sector, under central government", Collector K. Rajamani noted. 

"Vote counting in EVM’s will start in the respective constituency's counting centre at 8.30 am. No results for votes counted in EVM’s will be announced until postal votes are counted. 

Agents will be allotted by lottery method for checking VVPAT papers by election officer in front of the candidates or agents for 5 polling stations. After the counting of votes casted in EVM’s is completed, the checking of VVPAT papers in 5 polling stations will be done one after the other", the Collector added.
