For nearly 10 days, the district of Nilgiris have been receiving bountiful pre-monsoon showers. Especially, Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri and Kodanadu areas received heavy rainfall leaving the farmers rejoice.
Today being the first day of the 123rd flower show, thousands of tourists from various parts of the nation thronged the blue mountains to enjoy the colorful array of orchids and tulips at the botanical garden. However, the overcast sky and scattered rainfall played a spoil sport by forcing the tourists leave the lush garden which was immersed in rain water.
This year, for the first time the flower show has been extended to five days (May 17-21). Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in the Nilgiris district for the next one week, thus leaving the tourists re-schedule their travel plans.
