On Thursday night, two college students who were walking near the government arts college road heard a baby crying near the back gate of the government hospital gate. The duo, Chandrasekar (19), Sathyadharan (18) found a baby inside a cloth bag. They immediately informed the 108 ambulance and the baby was rescued.
The rescued new born was admitted at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). The doctors say that the male baby could be a week old and is doing fine. The baby was fed with breast milk from the breast milk bank at the GH.

The race course police have registered a case and are investigating the whereabouts of the mother of the new born.
The public and the doctors appreciated the efforts of the college students for rescuing the new born on time.
In the recent times, similar incidents of abandoning new born babies have increased in the city. If no one claims the baby, the district child protection officer will hand over to Sharanalyam, a centre for abandoned kids and a government authorised adoption centre.
