Coimbatore: The Secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Voice association has written a letter addressing to the Tamil Nadu, Secretariat and the Director of TN Police seeking to establish additional police stations in the city of Coimbatore.

In the letter, N. Logu, Secretary of the association explains, "Peelamedu E2 Police station which comes under Coimbatore City Police Department is located on Avinashi road. This Police Station’s Jurisdiction includes Udayampalayam, Sowripalayam, Peelamedu, Nava India, Avarampalayam, Hope College, Airport, Veeriyampalayam, Chinniyampalayam, Karupparayampalayam and it spreads across a vast area with a high population. In this scenario, there are not much police personnel or police vehicles in the station."

"Owing to lack of adequate police vehicles, the police personnel cannot intensify their patrolling work due to the vast area under their jurisdiction that includes schools and colleges, airport, industries and more residential areas on the Avinashi road."

"Since the police station is located in the remote area of Gandhi Ma Nagar, the public are not able to easily access and even the Police are unable to attend to any crime incidents immediately. More focus is given to the VIP’s protocol who visit colleges on Avinashi road and airport. Due to sufficient police personnel, the police cannot focus on other safety-related activities."

"Hence, taking this situation into consideration, we request you to establish a new Police station with three branches – Crime, Transport, Law and order in SITRA. This station can be established near CMC, Jagannathan Nagar, SITRA, Nehru Nagar, Veeriyampalayam, Karupparayampalayam, Goldwins, Chinniyampalayam and Airport, under Peelamedu police station Jurisdiction. By doing so, the workload on Peelamedu police station will be reduced and more focus can be given for public safety."

Similarly, the suburb police station located in Sulur, Trichy road is spread across vast areas including Kangeyampalayam, Sengathurai, Muthugoundanpudur, Kurumbapalayam, Ravathur, Neelambur, Kalangal, Rasipalayam and Athappagoundampudur. But there are not many police personnel or police vehicles in the station. Moreover, the police personnel of Sulur police station cannot intensify their patrolling work on a daily basis due to the vast area under their jurisdiction.

Also, if any accidents or crimes happen on Neelambur – Salem by pass road or villages near the highway, the police cannot attend to it immediately. And, the residents who live in the northern side of Neelambur and Avinashi road, cannot access the Police station, which is situated in the southern end. Moreover, due to lack of transportation facilities to Sulur Police station, if any untoward incident happens during the night, the public find it difficult to access. Even the police personnel cannot attend the incidents immediately."

"Hence, considering this situation, we request you to establish a new Police station in Sulur with Transport, Crime and Law and Order wing. It will include the areas like Muthugoundanpudur, Sulur post, Arasur, Thennampalayam, Rasipalayam, Kurumbapalayama and Mudalipalayam post. By doing this, the workload on Sulur Police station will be reduced and it will be useful for the people living in and around Neelambur", read the petition.
