Every day around 30 babies are delivered at the CMCH. Owing to weight issues, respiratory problems, premature babies and other birth complications, the ailing babies will be shifted to the neonatology ICU ward for special care. However, due to lack of advanced medical equipments and scarcity of incubators was a hindrance for the doctors to treat the ailing new borns. Now, with the launch of this new neonatology ICU, new born care will reach a all new height, say doctors at CMCH.
"Over the years, the mother-child death ratio has drastically reduced. At CMCH, utmost care is given for child birth and new born care. Last year, the central government's Lakshaya project was successfully implemented. With the available ICU for new born, the 24/7 availability of doctors and critical care helped us save many challenging cases at par with private hospitals", said Dr. Asokan, Dean of CMCH.
In this scenario, Dr. Buma, Dr. Jayaprakash along with Resident medical officer, Dr. Soundravel discussed on the idea proposed by the Dean to open a new modernised intensive Care unit for new born.
The joint efforts of the team along with the generous help of private organisations have helped to realise the idea into a reality. The 16-bedded ICU is equipped with modernised medical equipments and monitoring system to handle all new born ailments. State-of-the-art incubators and warmers along with camera installed on each of the cradles in the unit will help the doctors monitor the condition of the babies and attend to sick babies immediately.
"With this newly launched facility, people from economically backward classes who throng the government hospital for treatment will be largely benefitted. Uncompromised, high quality treatment for new born is assured at CMCH", said the doctors team.
The public also lauded the facility, as they need not run to private hospitals for advanced neo-natal care. "Whether poor or rich, every life should be treated at par, With this new ICU facility for new born, we are happy that ailing babies will get utmost care and fatalities can be reduced", expressed a newly delivered mother at CMCH.
With the launch of this facility, more patients from nearby districts and States including Nilgiris, Pollachi and Kerala will be referred to Coimbatore GH. On an average, around 5000 -7000 patients visit the CMCH as outpatients and the hospital houses around 2000 inpatients.
