The Nilgiris: To address the traffic woes in Ooty during the upcoming flower show season, the Superintendent of Police has come out with a novel idea of bringing together a team of locals under the banner 'Nilgiris Force' to assist the tourists in parking and regulating the traffic.

As lakhs of tourists are expected to throng the 'Queen of Hills' between May 17 to 21, the district traffic police are gearing up to ease the traffic in the hilly terrain.
The initiative was launched on Tuesday by SP Shanmughapriya in the presence of Deputy SP, Thangavel and Inspectors Sadhasivam and Murugesan.
Speaking on the initiative, the SP said "Clad in yellow t-shirts and blue caps, the members of the ‘Nilgiris Force’ will aid the tourist vehicles to park their vehicles, safety of the tourist and manage the overall traffic leading to the botanical garden between May 17 to 21."
"The members will be aiding the traffic at Thalaikuntha, Finger post, Kaandhal, Charingcross, Lovedale, Ellanalli and around the rose garden in Ooty", she told.
She also added that all the 60 volunteers of the 'Nilgiris force' will be reporting to the SP office in case of any emergencies. On a regular basis, the team wil update the traffic levels from their respective stand points.
