Coimbatore : The annual school bus/van inspection will be held in the district on May 21 at PRS grounds. All schools are requested to send their buses for the inspection without fail, said a release from the District Collector, K. Rajamani on Tuesday.

"Only the vehicles that are inspected and certified will be allowed to operate on the roads. And, any violations will be dealt legally", added the release.
School buses in Coimbatore
Six Regional Transport Offices (RTO) are operating in Pollachi, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore Central, South, North and West in Coimbatore district. And, two part offices in Sulur and Valparai.
There are totally 340 schools in these RTO office Jurisdictions, in which 2015 school buses are involved in transporting school students.
Out of which, 221 schools and 1172 school buses are operated in Coimbatore city limits.
1172 buses that come under Coimbatore north, south, west and centre will be examined on 21st May at PRS grounds. 469 buses of Pollachi RTO Jurisdiction will be examined at Pollachi RTO premises. 374 buses of Mettupalayam Jurisdiction will be examined at the ground near Savitha Hospital.
Inspection process
The inspection process involves checking of emergency exit doors, window grills, seating arrangements, comfort, capacity, availability of racks for keeping bags, speed governors and availability of first aid kit.
The buses should fulfil the requirements laid by the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses), Special Rules 2012.
