Two youths drown in Arkavathy river

A fishing trip to Arkavathy river turned fatal for two youth; they drowned in Kodihalli, Kanakapura taluk, on Sunday . The bodies of the youngsters, who were part of a five-member group of friends, were found nearly 8 hours later by a team of 15 fire and police personnel.

The victims are Yediyur residents Shivaraj, 30, a painter, and Santhosh, 30, a mechanic. Shivaraj got married only four months ago. They had accompanied Nagraj, Raghu and Natraj on the trip.

The friends left Bengaluru at 7am on two bikes and reached Kanakapura by 8.30am.Santhosh and Shivaraj plunged into the river and struggled to remain afloat. Hearing their cries, Nagraj, Raghu and Natraj, who didn't know swimming, called for help. By the time the rescue team reached, it was too late.
