The Commissioner appealed to the general public and the voluntary organizations in the city to cooperate in order to improve the cleanliness and sanitation of the city.
The government of TN has banned 14 types of plastics including plastic bags, plastic containers etc since January 1 under the Environment protection act 1986.
Sravan Kumar also said the awareness about alternatives of single-use plastic must be made more clearly to the public.
"Cloth bags, paper bags, banana leaves, lotus plant leaves, areca leaf plates, stainless steel utensils, must be used as alternatives," he added.
Assistant Commissioners T R Ravi, K Ravi Kumar, M Selvan, R Senthilkumar Rathinam, City Health Officer K Santhosh Kumar were also present.
