Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Highway road workers Association in their executive committee meeting held at K.R.C.City Centre in Tirupur Mangalam road on Monday, apprised that they will be going on a strike on May 28 condemning the State government's move to grant road maintenance contracts to private entities.
Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Highway road workers Association in their executive committee meeting held at K.R.C.City Centre in Tirupur Mangalam road on Monday, apprised that they will be going on a strike on May 28 condemning the State government's move to grant road maintenance contracts to private entities.
Balasubramaniam, State President of the association addressed the media after the meeting, he alleged "The State Government has awarded the Pollachi road maintenance work to a private company. The maintenance work, if carried by the State government would cost only Rs. 88 crores, whereas the private company contract has been signed for Rs. 247 crores."
"Like Pollachi road contract, the government has given highway road maintenance work of six districts to a private company. The government is deceiving the highway workers without hiking their salary", he alleged.
"Hence, we will be staging a stay-in-strike with our family members at the Highways Executive Director office at Chennai on May 28", he told.
