Mettupalayam : Wild elephants have been frequenting the Mettupalayam Kallar area for the past few days. Due to water scarcity in the forest, elephants and other wild animals are seen frequently visiting the Bhavani river and streams in Kallar for drinking water.

A tusker entered into an agricultural land near Kallar Thuripalam this morning and attacked Krishnamurthi, a farm labourer. It is reported that he was badly injured in the attack. Neighbours around the land shouted and chased the elephant away into the forest. Krishnamurthi who sustained severe head injuries was rescued and rushed to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital. He was administered first aid there and then quickly shifted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.
The Forest Department has advised the public to be more cautious since the movement of wild animals can be expected to be more frequent in summer.
