The implementation of GST by BJP is akin to giving a Garland in monkey's hands - P Chidambaram

Coimbatore: Former Central minister P Chidambaram was in town to campaign for the Sulur by-election DMK candidate, Pongalur Palaniswamy. A public meeting was held in the Karumathampatti village in Coimbatore District.

P. Chidambaram, who spoke at the meeting, said that the AIADMK had made several attempts to stop the byelection and that the by-election was possible because of court orders. He said "the people of Sulur are really fortunate to have two votes - one for the Parliamentary elections and one for assembly elections - both at the same time. It's like two bullets in a double barrel gun and the opposition are struggling for breath" he quipped.

He said "the DMK - Congress coalition was sealed in under 3 minutes. This coalition has been together for 6 times and all 6 times we have won and we will continue to have this alliance post the elections too."

As far as opposition to Modi or BJP is concerned, TN is the frontrunner. Stalwarts like Periyar, Kamarajar, Anna and Karunanithi have shaped the Tamil Community to be the front runners in the country.

The Modi government is hostile to Tamil interests and state rights. It also wants to impose a single uniform culture and language for the whole country with its Hindutva ideology.

Harping on the performance of their previous tenure, he said that they did everything that the BJP said it can't do like 100 day work plan, RTI, and Food Safety act.

Now we have announced that we will give 5 crore families ₹6,000 per month. He also asked if he can give an accounting lesson for Tamilisai Soundarajan. He said the GST implementation of BJP was like a beautiful Garland in the monkey's hands. We will bring the necessary restructuring to ensure that GST becomes a great and simple tax for the country.

He accused that the current ADMK Government had no resemblance to MGR or Jayalalitha. This ADMK Government is the only state in the South that's run by the BJP and their leaders are nothing but puppets. It's extremely shameful for TN that such a government exists and the day Rahul Gandhi becomes PM, Stalin will become CM. Also on the same day NEET will be cancelled. On the day when Rahul Gandhi said that NEET will be cancelled, Piyush Goyal said NEET will continue and that shows the kind of respect they have for Tamil aspirations.

Without a hostile government in the center and the state, a lot of revolutionary schemes can be implemented. The Congress govt in the center and DMK in Tamilnadu will work towards the betterment of Tamils unlike the current combine of EPS and OPS who don't care about what Tamils aspire.
