Wife of deceased MNM cadre petitions Collector to deny permission for Kamal Haasan's Sulur campaign

Coimbatore: Balamurugan, a member of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party who hailed from Palladam reportedly died on April 18 under very suspicious circumstances.

Coimbatore: Balamurugan, a member of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party who hailed from Palladam reportedly died on April 18 under very suspicious circumstances.

His wife, Viyayakumari has filed a petition with the Collector urging him to deny permission for the MNM President, Kamal Haasan to campaign for the Sulur election.

Addressing the media, she said, “My husband Balamurugan who was a member of MNM and the polling booth committee member for Palladam visited the party office on April 18 for election related duties. But, he was found dead in the office that day. Party members, Senthil and Shivakumar who were present during that time did not inform me about his death. Similarly, Mahendran who contested in the parliamentary election from Coimbatore also did not enquire about my husband’s death or visit us in person to offer condolences.

Kamal Haasan who also did not offer condolences for my husband’s death is now going to campaign in Sulur. I have petitioned the Collector to deny him permission. How can Kamal Haasan who neglects his own party workers solve people’s problems? Is it because we belong to the Arunthathiyar caste? Or is it his aim to seek political gain with our community people?” she questioned.
