The Election Commission had announced that the by-election for Thirupparankundram, Aravakkurichi and Ottapidaram will be conducted on May 19.
55 nominations have been filed from April 22 till today which includes candidates of AIADMK, DMK, AMMK and Naam Tamilar. The DMK ex-minister Pongalur Palanisamy filed his nomination last week. The Sulur constituency AIADMK MLA Kanagaraj died recently owing to a sudden cardiac arrest. His brother, V P Kandhasami filed his nomination today.
Responding to a query on whether ex-minister S M Velusamy was disgruntled for being given a seat, Minister S P Velumani reiterated today saying, "All are staying united in our party and we will win the election with a margin of 50,000 votes difference."
Sukumar from AMMK who filed his nomination assured that action will be taken to sort out the issues prevailing in Sulur and that AMMK would win in all the constituencies by a great margin.
Mayilsami of MNM who filed his nomination addressed the media saying, "I will stress on our government to improve agriculture and to open an agricultural college in Sulur.
Independent candidate Palanisamy who filed his nomination brought Rs.10 coins in a sand pot saying that he will step down from power if his promises are not fulfilled in two years.
A total of 31 candidates filed their nominations today and a review of all the nomination papers will now take place. May 2 has been announced as the last day to withdraw nominations.
