Coimbatore: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) led by the Secretary Radhika, petitioned at the Collectorate stating, "A girl child was sexually assaulted and murdered in Pannimadai.
Coimbatore: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) led by the Secretary Radhika, petitioned at the Collectorate stating, "A girl child was sexually assaulted and murdered in Pannimadai.
A compensation amount of 3 lakh rupees given to the child’s family is not enough. The amount should be increased and one member of the family should be given a government job. CCTV cameras should be installed in places where sexual assaults against both children and women are likely to happen and it should be connected to the DSP office directly for monitoring.
Sexual assaults are also happening in areas which do not have separate individual toilets. Hence, the district administration should take necessary steps to build toilets under the Prime Minister’s individual toilet scheme.”
The Vice President of AIDWA, Vasuki later addressed the media saying, "Teachers and parents should be educated about Gender Equality Laws. If the District Collector, along with the police department and other welfare organisation members join together and discuss this once in a month, the crime percentage can be reduced. AIDWA requested for the CBI probe in the Pollachi incident and we welcome the fact that CBI is conducting the enquiry now. We are trying to meet the victims of the Pollachi incident,” she added.
