Due to lack of rains this summer, farmers evinced interest in cultivating Marigold, the 60-days crop, instead of cultivating crops that require higher irrigation. Marigold is considered the best-suited crop for summer since it does not require much water.
“Marigold can be cultivated separately or as a catch crop along with other crops. Since it is a short-term crop, it can be harvested within a few days of cultivation and water can also be saved if we follow the drip irrigation method,” opine farmers.
At present, the yellow marigold variety is sold up to Rs.100 per kg, while the red marigold is priced up to Rs.70 per kg. Flower farmers of this area are delighted over the high yield and good price of marigold this summer.
