The deceased was identified as Arouldasse Massena, 59, of Rue de la Saone from Maureapas in France.
According to police, Massena has a French citizenship and was residing in Pondicherry. Coming back to India, he had stayed for a while in Pondicherry and had started the trek on Saturday along with three others.
Massena had developed breathing problem on reaching the fifth hill and died after suffering from a heart attack. His body was brought down by foresters on Sunday and a case was registered with the Alandurai Police. His mortal remains were handed over to his family on Monday.
Notably, this is the fourth death on the trek route in four months.
A thirty-two-year-old from Chennai died on the seventh hill on Friday.
