The Nilgiris : Officials in Nilgiris have assured the public that there would no scarcity of drinking water this summer owing to continuous rainfall in the district, in the past week.
The Southwest monsoon and Northeast monsoon rainfall usually begins in June until November. Last year, the Southwest monsoon rainfall which was on cue extended to nearly four months, leading to all dams being full. This enabled consistent water supply int he district till February.

But with no rainfall in the past four months, the water levels had decreased in all the water bodies. But in the past week, Ooty, Coonoor and Kotagiri received heavy rainfall. Tea plantations look fresh due to the rainfall. The Horticulture Department too has now begun elaborate arrangements for the upcoming summer festival, owing to adequate water supply. Locals and officials presume that all dams in Nilgiris will be filled if rainfall continues for the next two days.
"There will be no drinking water problem in the district till the end of summer holidays," announced an official.
