With severe drought prevailing in Coonoor and its surrounding areas due to the dry summer season, animals from the forest regions have been venturing into agricultural lands in search of fodder and water.
Farmers in Palada and Kolanimattum are the most affected as acres of their cultivation is under threat. Crops like carrot, cabbage, beetroot and beans have been cultivated in several hundreds of acres in both the villages.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday , a herd of wild gaurs that strayed from the forest region in Kolanimattum damaged the crops, due to which farmers have incurred severe loss.
Following this, farmers in the area have urged the forest officials to be active round-the-clock and chase away the animals that stray out from the jungles.
