Coimbatore : In an effort to bring down the casualties caused by the never-ending Human-Elephant Conflict, the Sirumugai Range of the Coimbatore Forest Division is distributing pamphlets to sensitize farmers and people about elephants.
Coimbatore : In an effort to bring down the casualties caused by the never-ending Human-Elephant Conflict, the Sirumugai Range of the Coimbatore Forest Division is distributing pamphlets to sensitize farmers and people about elephants.
The farmers have been requested not to farm or enter the catchment area of the Bhavanisagar Reservoir in Pethikuttai since there is heightened elephant movement in the area. People have also been advised not to enter the forest roads or the Reserve at any cost, to avoid accidental encounters with elephants. Notably, two people have been injured by elephants in these regions.
Forest officials have also advised people not to frequent Reserve areas at nights and avoid travelling through them during the night. “It is advised to leave lights on in front of the house to discourage elephants from coming close during the night,” the pamphlet reads.
Requesting the public to not throw stones or any objects at elephants if they enter their farms, people have been advised to immediately inform the Forest Department. They have also been requested to cooperate by not taunting elephants or making unnecessary noises when elephants are being chased. In order to avoid electrocution, people have also been requested not to give direct power supply to the fences and send controlled supply through a battery.
