Coimbatore: In a tragic accident, end elephant that was feeding from an Areca nut farm in Mettupalayam was electrocuted after a low hanging fence fell on it around early morning on Tuesday here.
According to foresters, the accident happened when the elephant, aged around 30-40 was moving in the Ranimagalkarar Areca nut, located 800 meters away from the nearby Nellithurai Reserve Forest.

While trying to push down an Areca nut tree, the tree had reportedly caught with a low hanging EB power line and pulled it along.
The power line had accidentally fell right on the elephant’s back killing it on the spot inside the farm.

While NGO members and foresters arrived on the spot to conduct an autopsy, environmentalists have pondered over the loss of another tusker in the region.
Recently, a tusker was electrocuted in a farm in Sirumugai after coming in contact with a live wire.
