The Tamil Nadu government had banned single-use plastic from January 1, this year. Following this, the Coimbatore Corporation have carried out various measures to curb use of plastic. Health department workers led by City Health Officer, K Santhosh Kumar conducted searches at various places in the city, including Gandhipuram, Vadavalli, Sathi Road and R S Puram. A total of 100 kg plastics was seized from shops and hotels in these areas. A fine of Rs.26,000 has been levied on the shop owners who were found to be using the banned plastics.
