Coimbatore : The second phase of 17th Parliamentary elections has concluded in the State of Tamil Nadu. Though the elections went on in a peaceful manner, the low turnout of voters in many constituencies has left the political parties disappointed.

In Coimbatore, until 5 p.m. the average voter turnout was only 57.36%, nearly 11% per cent lower than 68.14% in 2014. Though the final voting percentage is yet to be officially declared, the political parties are perturbed on the numbers.
The initial polling which began at commenced briskly in Coimbatore, later slowed down by noon.
Presently, the EVMs from various poling booths are being transferred to the Government College of Technology here which is the official vote counting centre. The EVMs will be sealed in strong rooms with heavy police security in the presence of District Collector and Returning officer, K. Rajamani. The counting of votes will be held on May 23.
