Nilgiris : The district administration has appointed a 'Micro Observer' for each of the 120 vulnerable polling booths in the Nilgiris Constituency, here.
Of the 120 polling booths, 78 polling booths are situated in Nilgiris District alone and a Micro Observer will be on vigil in all these booths.
With six assembly constituencies including Mettupalayam near Coimbatore, Bhavani Sagar near Erode, Avinashi near Tiruppur, and Ooty, Coonoor and Gudalur in the Nilgiris, the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency has a total of 1610 polling booths.
Of these, 736 polling booths are in towns and 874 in urban areas. A total of 13,65,608 voters which includes 6,65,337 men and 7,00,202 women are expected to vote. As many as 656 polling booths have been fitted with web cameras and 7,786 electoral staff are stationed at the polling booths in the constituency.
Over 2500 police personnel, the Rapid Action Force and Naxalite Search Teams will be on guard to provide security during the elections.
