A total of 30 flying squads and 30 static teams have been deployed for 24/7 hours surveillance. 20 video surveillance teams have been appointed to monitor public meeting and rallies to keep them from violating the model code of conduct.
With the model code of conduct in force, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions during elections. People carrying more than Rs.50,000 were advised to carry proper documents. Failing to produce these documents, the officers of the flying squad could confiscate the cash and hand over the same to the income tax department.
The election flying squad have seized over Rs.12 crores till date since the day the model code of conduct came into effect, out of which Rs 3,31,54,425, 154.5 kg gold and 277 silk saris were returned to the owners after appropriate documents were produced. 100 kg of sugar, 3,500 kg of rice, 2,500 kg of wheat, 784 kg of dal, 2,303 liquor bottles, Rs.37,000 worth 15 kg gutka, 2 kg ganja and 6 guns were handed over to the nearby police stations. Rs.62,304 worth 128 travel bags and 4800 sample vote slips were also handed over to the treasury.
