Coimbatore : A public meeting was held yesterday at Singanallur, supporting CPI (M) candidate P R Natarajan. Prakash Karat, a member of CPI (M) Political Leaders Committee was the chief guest at the event.

Addressing the crowd, Prakash Karat said, ”Upcoming election is considered as an important one in Indian history. BJP which is following RSS is not following the Indian Constitution. April 14 is Ambedkar’s birthday. He is the one who drafted the Constitution, but the Constitution is in danger today. Hence, whoever has their belief in democracy should overthrow the BJP regime."

Slamming Karnataka’s Union Minister, Anand Hegde of BJP for openly stating that the Constitution should be changed, Prakash Karat said, "RSS is insisting to implement Manu Shastra from the beginning and BJP is waiting to implement it. BJP has staged attacks on minorities and Dalits in the name of religion, for the past five years. 47 people have been killed till now under the banner of protecting cows. Fear of defeat is gripping the BJP now and hence they are creating insecurity among people to capitalize on the image that only they can provide protection. Also, unemployment has increased during BJP’s regime since they have not provided for job opportunities. Thousands of small and micro industries have been shut down in Coimbatore due to demonetization and GST. Farmers committed suicide due to non-availability of base prices and now BJP is announcing Rs.6000 for farmers families per year, which shows how far they have stooped."

"Modi openly indulged in corruption by interfering directly in a 30,000 crores Rafale deal by directing it to an inexperienced Anil Ambani’s company. BJP is also trying to create a fascist rule – “One religion, One Government” by creating conflicts among people through religious riots and imposing Hindi and Sanskrit. Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK government has surrendered to BJP instead of fighting against them to stand for its rights. Hence to abolish them from their regime and to create a peaceful rule in Coimbatore, we request you to support the Secular Progressive Alliance," requested Prakash Karat.

G Ramakrishnan, CPI (M), N Karthik (MLA) and cadres from various parties like the CPI, Congress, MDMK, Viduthalai Siruthaigal, Kongunadu Makkal Katchi, Muslim League, MMK, MJK, IJK participated in the event.
