Bandh updates: 3 lakh lorries, 22 lakh shops remain closed


Barring the ruling AIADMK and its political and trade union allies, most of the political outfits including DMK, MDMK, trade associations, farmer associations in Tamil Nadu have extended their support for the state-wide bandh, condemning the violence staged against Tamil community people in Karnataka and seeking justice in the on-going Cauvery dispute. 

Close to 3 lakh lorries are off the roads and 22 lakhs shops with shutters down has variably affected the daily routine of the people in the State. Petrol pumps, commercial establishments, Omnibuses, private educational institutions unions' remain closed throughout Tamil Nadu. Rail rokos, rallies, and protests are being staged at most parts of the State by various associations and political outfits. Though local Government buses and Government establishments are working, autos, private buses, cargo and freight services are totally shut their operations. 

The police are busy averting the rokos staged by the protestors and ensuring utmost safety of the public and to avoid any unforeseen incidents during this 12-hour bandh.
