Drinking water supply is usually carried out from the Elada check dam to the Gudalur town panchayat areas, but lately the water supply has been erratic, forcing people to buy water from private operators. The marketplace has been worst hit.
Residents lament that they need to trek long distances to fetch water, since the town panchayat has failed to supply them with drinking water. "The Alakarai mega water scheme has not been implemented despite work that was completed for the project, which has further increased the gravity of the situation,” allege residents.
